Marissa’s supervision style reflects the Liberation-informed approach she takes in her clinical practice with clients. Although there is an unavoidable hierarchy inherent in the supervisory relationship, her supervisory methods and practices empower Associates to value their experiences, consciousness, and ancestral knowledge on par with their growing clinical skills. I aim to deconstruct a singular vision of what it means to be an “expert” and instead offer Associates a process-oriented approach that celebrates collaborative, continuous growth.

Entering into a supervisory commitment with Marissa is grounded in structure, transparency, and collaboration.

• Marissa meets with Associates individually four times a month and as a group once a month.

• Associates may accrue hours at an external 3rd-party site, or as a private practice clinician.

• I also mentor Associates on branding, marketing, and cultivating community partnerships.

• Associates are expected to actively and continually invest in their growth as a clinician through readings, pláticas, and community engagement.

I never felt quite at home during my licensure experience. I had an amazing supervisor that I could really nerd out with on an intellectual/clinical level, but I never felt like I could truly be vulnerable about my experiences throughout my Associate years. Once I became a campus-based therapist and began supervising graduate-level interns, I realized that to feel comfortable leaning into vulnerability I would’ve needed to feel seen and understood as a first-gen graduate with the pressures of working full-time and having absolutely zero safety-net. I did what a lot of people do during the licensure process…I white-knuckled through my hours quick as I could! It wasn’t until I was fully-licensed that I really started to find my community, voice, and passion. I share all this to help you understand why I prioritize transparency and collaboration as a Supervisor and have a passion for mentoring! (also, please don’t do the “white-knuckle” method…whether we work together or not…0/10 don’t recommend.)
